Hello! Welcome to lj! About a year ago I was in the same boat, meaning I didn't understand how icons were made either. The first time I really learned was when I volunteered myself to do a 100 Frodo icons for icons100. Since, I've been hooked in making icons, especially of Elijah and Frodo.
